About Us

We welcome all guests !!!!! Come check out a meeting for FREE!

The Sarnia Aquarium Society meets at 7:30 pm on the second Tuesday of each month at  The British Canadian Club, 375 Vidal St. South.  At our general meetings, we enjoy guest speakers, slide or video presentations, a bowl show competition, raffles, mini auctions, discussions on fish keeping and breeding fish and growing aquatic plants.  The meetings are informal and friendly and there are always plenty of opportunities to talk fish with other hobbyists.

Our club belongs to C.A.O.A.C. (Canadian Association of Aquarium Clubs).  Our Breeders Award Program amd Aquatic Horticulture Programs are nationally recognized and our annual Show is C.A.O.A.C. Sanctioned.  The object of these programs are to encourage knowledge on the requirements of individual fish species; to conserve rare and endangered species and to educate the public.  We also have a Marine Awards Program.

The (B.A.P.) Breeder Award Program offers the hobbyist a chance to collect points for successfully breeding and raising freshwater aquarium fish.  Points are awarded according to the level of difficulty in getting certain species to spawn in captivity.  Points are accumulative and are applied towards club and C.A.O.A.C. awards.

The (A.H.A.P.) Aquatic Horticulture Award Program offers the hobbyist a chance to collect points for every propagation, seeding and flowering of aquatic plants.  The A.H.A.P. encourages the collection of knowledge about aquarium plants and their requirements.  Points are accumulative and are applied towards club and C.A.O.A.C. awards.

The (M.B.A.P.) Marine Breeder Award Program offers the hobbyist a chance to collect points for each successful breeding of marine fish or invertebrates.  The purpose of the M.B.A.P. is to encourage spawning of marine fish and propagation of invertebrates; to share and exchange successful and unsuccessful techniques and methods of breeding; to recognize and reward achievement in the breeding of marine aquarium life; to create a bank of information available to any aquarist or professional to use in breeding of untried and already bred species and most importantly to reduce the strain this hobby is having on our natural reef systems by supplying tank raised species to aquarists and not relying on wild caught specimens. Points are accumulative and are applied towards club and C.A.O.A.C. awards.

The Aqua Antics is the official publication of the Sarnia Aquarium Society.  It's goal is to provide club members with a place to publish their articles on fish and/or plant propogations and share it with others.

A Bowl Show is held at our monthly meetings.  Each month a different category of fish is featured.  Other occasional categories include aquatic plants or fish related crafts (e.g. a painting of a fish).  First place in each category receives a S.A.S. ribbon.

A Raffle is held at each general meeting.   Various items such as tanks, fish food, books, aquatic plants or fish are raffled off.  (Hard to find, rare, or extinct in the wild fish or plants are sometimes included in this raffle!) Ticket prices are $1 each or 3 tickets for $2.

Membership dues are $20 per year per family, payable October 1st each year.  We encourage everyone to try us out for 2 meetings before you are asked to join.

The SAS library is the most complete source of reference in Sarnia and members may sign out books for one month at a time at the discretion of the Librarian.  Reprints of articles from the Aqua Antics are acceptable as long as the author and the SAS are given credit and two copies of the reprint are sent to the SAS.  All club correspondence may be sent to:
